The Brief/
Joss Austin is a singer/songwriter based in South Africa. His chart topping music catalogue spans multiple genres, each song overflowing with emotion and narrative. He approached the Mundane team to shoot the music video to be released alongside his new single “Toxic”.
The concept was to create a compelling visual narrative about an individual stuck in a toxic relationship where conventional romance has been perverted. The video needed to capture the characters position in this environment, physically and emotionally.
The Narrative/
In line with the brief, the video composition effortlessly captures the imagery contained within the lyrics. Through the use of alternating shot angles, the team create an air of implication and misdirection mimicking the disillusionment of a toxic relationship.
The juxtaposition in the narrative provided the perfect creative platform to use a wide-range of locations and lighting scenarios, bringing a freedom to take the audience on a journey. The outcome is an emotive experience that will hold your attention until the last second.
